Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander physiotherapy community and bursaries

The Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA), with the support of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Committee, (ATSIHC) are developing a network of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander physiotherapists and physiotherapy students.

This group will play a vital role implementing the newly developed Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) which is being launched at national Conference in Sydney on October 19th-21st, 2017.

The APA is inviting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander colleagues (students and graduates) to be part of this exciting new chapter, focusing on culturally safe, sensitive, secure and appropriate physiotherapy healthcare to all Australians.

There are many ways that you can be involved:

  • Attend the APA conference in Sydney
  • Volunteer to become a mentor for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students or graduates and / or be mentored by an experienced physiotherapist
  • Become a member of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander physiotherapy community
  • Join a working party on cultural safety in physiotherapy practice

Bursaries are being offered to attend the conference which will cover conference fees, travel, accommodation and food expenses. Students in the final years of their physiotherapy course, or recent graduates are encouraged to apply.

If you would like to attend the conference, please complete the application form here and return it to the APA (alex.lakani@physiotherapy.asn.au) by September 15th 2017
