$10,000 scholarship to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who are commencing a Master of Public Health.

The scholarship will consist of a $10,000 one-off fee reduction in the first semester of enrolment, after the census date.

Where the recipient is studying part time, the amount awarded for each relevant semester will be 50% of the full-time rate and the scholarship will be tenable for two part-time semesters only.

This scholarship is jointly sponsored by CRANAplus and the Centre for Remote Health. The scholarship covers all course fees for the Graduate Certificate in Remote Health Practice, offered through Flinders University. One scholarship will be awarded annually, for study to commence the following year.

Tenure
The scholarship will continue for the duration of the Graduate Certificate in Remote Health Practice. The usual part time study period is 12 months; however recipients may be allowed up to 2 years to complete their course.  Inability to complete the study may incur a financial penalty

Eligibility Criteria
This scholarship is open to registered nurses, Indigenous health practitioners, allied health practitioners and medical officers.

Applicants must meet the following entry requirements of the Graduate Certificate in Remote Health Practice::

  • hold an approved degree or equivalent qualification from an approved tertiary institution in a health-related field.
  • the Nursing stream must have a minimum of one-year post-registration experience and must be currently registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Registered Nurse with no restrictions on practice.
  • the Medical stream must be either concurrently enrolled in the Doctor of Medicine at Flinders University or currently registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Medical Practitioner.
  • The Faculty Board may, under certain circumstances and subject to specific conditions, admit others who can show evidence of fitness for candidature.

Working in remote practice is desirable.

*Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply

CRANAplus Undergraduate Remote Placement Scholarships

In addition to the professional connections, access to resources and support undergraduate students gain from CRANAplus membership, there is the possibility of being awarded an Undergraduate Remote Placement Scholarship. The scholarships offer financial assistance to support undergraduate students who are interested in working remotely, giving them the opportunity to experience a remote health setting first hand. This demonstrates the commitment of CRANAplus to the future remote health workforce.

About The Scholarships

Each year CRANAplus offers a number of scholarships. These scholarships provide financial assistance of up to $1000 per applicant, per remote placement. They can be applied to the cost of fares, accommodation and other incidental costs incurred by a student undertaking an undergraduate placement in a remote area of Australia and its external Territories.

Round One for placements from 1 January – 30 June each year- Applications open 1 Feb and close 31 May

Round Two for placements 1 July – 31 December. Applications open 1 July and Close 30 October.

In order for the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to be adequately met by pharmacists, there is a need for more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander pharmacists to work in the industry. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Pharmacy Scholarship Scheme aims to encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to undertake undergraduate or graduate studies in pharmacy at university.

A total of 3 scholarships valued at $15,000 per annum for a maximum of four years are offered annually. Scholarships are available to students in any year of their undergraduate or graduate degree.

Jeff Cheverton Memorial Scholarship

The Jeff Cheverton Memorial Scholarship has been established by the Australian Healthcare and Hospitals Association (AHHA), together with Brisbane North Primary Health Network and North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network, to honour the memory of Jeff Cheverton, who demonstrated excellence in health leadership until his untimely death in March 2017. Applications for 2020 Study Grant Scheme open 1 September 2019 – now closed

The ACA National Study Grant Scheme (ACANSS) is available to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people who are studying a chiropractic course at an Australian University.

It is an ACA initiative designed to encourage and assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in chiropractic to complete their studies and join the health workforce. ACA has a strong relationship with Indigenous Allied Health Australia (IAHA), the national not-for-profit Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander allied health organisation, who will be a key partner in the selection and support of the successful candidate.

The Puggy Hunter Memorial Scholarship Scheme (PHMSS) is designed to encourage and assist undergraduate students in health-related disciplines to complete their studies and join the health workforce. The scheme provides scholarships for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people studying an entry level health course.

The Australian Government established the Scheme as a tribute to the late Dr Arnold ‘Puggy’ Hunter’s outstanding contribution to Indigenous Australians’ health and his role and Chair of the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO).

Round 3 of the Health Workforce Scholarship Program (HWSP) is now open.

RDWA is providing scholarships and bursaries for medical, nursing and allied health professionals (including Aboriginal health workers) working in rural and remote South Australia through the HWSP.

HWSP is designed to improve access to health services for people living in rural and remote areas by supporting privately employed health professionals to increase their skills, capacity and/or scope of practice.

Scholarships of up to $10,000 per year are available for formal postgraduate studies and are awarded for up to two years.

Bursaries for training and up-skilling are awarded as one-off payments to cover the cost of training or course fees, and/or cover or partially cover training related expenses.

The Applicant Guidelines provides further information about eligibility, assessment of applications and recipient obligations.

RDWA encourages eligible health professionals to apply.  General Practitioners, mental health professionals and health professionals working in Aboriginal Health Services or where the professional development activity relates to improving service provision to Aboriginal people in locations MMM 3-7 in South Australia have been identified as priorities for this Program.

  • Course/activity name
  • Course/ activity provider name
  • Course/ activity location
  • Course/ activity dates
  • Course/ activity costs
  • Employer name and address
  • Up to 100 words describing how the course will assist you in addressing an identified community health need
  • Up to 50 words describing how you will increase your skills and use the increased skill in servicing your community
  • Up to 50 words describing how you will increase your capacity to provide health services
  • Up to 50 words describing how your scope of practice will be increased in your current role
