Barunga Festival – “WOW! That’s all I can say…”
IAHA team member Judy Bell talks about her experience promoting careers in allied health at the Barunga Festival 5-7 June 2015…
“Travelling over 4500kms to the beautiful country of IAHA’s sister Kylie Stothers, to her homelands of Katherine, Northern Territory. WOW! That’s all I can say… what a beautiful place. IAHA CEO Donna Murray and I set off on a journey of culture, music, sport to attend the 30 year anniversary of the Barunga festival. The Pajero packed to the brim and loaded with IAHA promos ready to showcase our fantastic organisation to community, to organisations, to many and all!
We had countless visitors attend our stall asking questions, taking information and promos, and most of all the kids from communities giving us a laugh! It was a great opportunity to promote IAHA at a community level, to engage and talk to people who attended this great festival.
There was also a didgeridoo making workshop and didj playing competition, bush medicine workshop, spear throwing competition, art and craft, and lots more! Music by special guest Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu who is an amazing artist, his beautiful voice floating throughout the festival gave an amazing performance as expected, and a band called B2M was unbelievable, my new favourite!
We met many people, made new IAHA friends and family and had an awesome time promoting and publicising IAHA and allied health within our communities and country!!”
